Disciple.
Disciplined? Me? No.
Radical.
Rooted? Perhaps so.
Set apart to do God’s will,
but will I do it? The question still
lingers in the air unanswered.
My heart says, “Yes!”, my mind says, “Nonesense!”
“To live is Christ, to die is gain,
yet one small loss, and I complain!”
I try, and try, and try once more
to pull my socks up, and adore
Christ most of all, above all things,
But failure, then despair, brings
me to my knees in desperation,
trying to overcome frustration.
Will I never get it right?
Am I going to lose this fight?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As my heart is stilled in prayer,
I find my Father waiting there
to tell me that His righteousness
is not by works, but is a gift.
It’s not about how I perform,
He is the One who will conform
me to His image, and His will,
for He works in me, and will fill
me with His grace, ‘til I desire
and live a holy life on fire.
So I press on toward the goal,
His image stamped upon my soul.
No longer in my strength, this hour
I trust in His unfailing power.
The fight’s still on, and it is heated,
but my enemy has been defeated!
